This month we want to recognise the impact of all the brilliant volunteers from our Lead Supporters, who visited schools to celebrate National Numeracy Day
Thirty volunteers from Capital One, Experian, EY, Kartesia, S&P Global and Vanquis Banking Group visited twenty-two schools in Bradford, Salford, Nottingham, Derby, Hemel Hempstead, London, Gravesend and Woking, including a two school tour of Leicester by Capital One volunteers, Dave Richards and Shiva Doran, and Experian volunteer, Sam Furr, to highlight the campaign.
Cairo Spencer, Deputy Headteacher, St Paul’s with St Michael’s CE Primary, Hackney, said: "The volunteer presented confidently and took questions very well, making links with themself in maths, their job and maths in their personal life. The children enjoyed seeing someone from a 'real job' (not teachers!) explaining their enjoyment for their work and how maths has played an important role."
Rae Dean, Year 6 teacher and Maths Lead, Victoria Primary School, Nottingham, said: "All pupils were engaged due to the volunteer’s confidence and knowledge in delivering their assembly. The slides were engaging and there were lots of opportunities for pupils to answer questions and be involved. We wouldn’t have known it was their first time delivering an assembly if they hadn’t mentioned it – a credit to your volunteer team!"
Volunteers’ Week honours the incredible contributions of volunteers who make our communities stronger every day
A big thank you to all our volunteers who have visited a school this year. We know you make a difference in the schools you visit and we enjoy hearing about how the programme makes a difference to you too.
Abigail Whittaker, Chief of Staff, Vanquis Banking Group, said: "It’s great to give something back. Makes you feel proud. Gives you a break from the day job and puts things into perspective!"
We have a busy programme of volunteering activity planned for June and July and are looking ahead to the autumn school term
